About
About Staré Město
Staré Město (Veligrad) — core of Great Moravian Veligrad agglomeration (8th–10th c, peak 833–907) on Morava terrace at Uherské Hradiště, with Staré Město–Uherské Hradiště–Modrá 250 ha complex. Excavated V. Hrubý: Church at Na Valách with 2,000+ graves and Great Moravian jewellery, rotunda Modrá, palace foundations, Morava bridge abutments. Competing Veligrad hypothesis vs Mikulčice (Staré Město has denser church–palace–grave cluster on dry terrace rather than floodplain). 5000+ graves total, gold ear pendants, glass beads, Frankish sarcophagus. Moravia–Danube corridor to Nitra.
Why it mattersVeligrad dry-terrace rival — densest Great Moravian church-palace cluster 5000 graves
