About Torsburgen Hillfort (Gotland)
Largest hillfort in Scandinavia at 1.2 km² plateau fortified by 2 km limestone wall across the narrow neck of a 67 m high limestone plateau. Described in Guta Saga as refuge when Gotland overpopulated. Wall is dry-stone 6–10 m wide, up to 5 m high. Occupation from Early Iron Age to c.1100 CE with sporadic Viking Age finds. Visible wall sections and plateau stretch 4 km north–south.
