About Uzundara Fortress

Greco-Bactrian stone fortress on Susiztag cuesta gorge 7 km south of Darband Wall, between Baysun and Darband, discovered 1991 by E. Rtveladze and re-dated 1997 by Rapin/Rakhmanov. Thirteen-tower, 220 m wide fortress locks pass between Bactria and Sogdiana, stone-built unlike Kushan forts, with Hellenistic pottery and early Kushan coins (33 in 2017), controlling Alexander's Suvsiztag frontier with Darband Wall.
