About
About Varvarovka 8 (Usatovo)
Usatovo steppe village and cemetery (c.3500–3200 BCE) on Khadzhibey Liman — late Trypillia C2 → Early Bronze hybrid: excavated by Victor Petrenko (Odessa). Usatovo culture bridges Tripolye late urban collapse to Yamnaya steppe: settlement with house floors, amphorae, and adjacent kurgan cemetery with stelae, ochre, copper daggers and Balkan imports. Buried Usatovo horizon shows transition from Trypillia mega-site farming to Pontic pastorals. Type-site Usatovo period where “Trypillia–Usatovo–Yamnaya” continuum contested. Collective graves with secondary burial.
Why it mattersName-site Usatovo as post-Trypillia bridge proving Trypillia C2 did not simply ‘collapse’ but hybridised into Yamnaya steppe via Black Sea coast.
