About

About Z City — Mato Grosso Rondon Second Phantom Ridge (Fawcett's Z east)

Second Z-city ridge phantom hypothesizes Fawcett's City Z lay on quartzite ridge south of Serra do Cachimbo near Rondon do Pará (8.5S 50.8W) where Fawcett 1920 maps marked 'ruins' based on Munduruku 'stone houses' rumor 110 km north of Kalapalo last contact. Ridge shows white quartzite jointing mimicking isodomic walls 1.5 km, plus central monolith 8 m 'tower' proven to be residual tower karst. 1952 Villas-Bôas search flew ridge and found no walls. Treated hypothetical — may conflate Kalapalo Kuhikugu outpost with Z misplacement; Z was Kuhikugu but ridge is secondary phantom west of true complex.

Why it mattersTests Fawcett Z cartographic error: Rondon telegraph coordinate relay off 110 km — explains secondary Z sightings independent of Kuhikugu legitimacy, proves how Z bifurcated into two phantom branches.

Mysteries & theories

Mysteries

  1. 01Is quartzite joint isodomic or true ashlar coursing with mortar bedding?
  2. 02Why no ceramics if Munduruku stone houses?

Theories

  1. 01Munduruku houses were Kuhikugu ring-ditch outlier, not quartzite walls — relay error
  2. 02Rondon ridge inventory confused with Kalapalo K8 plaza variant

Theories are interpretations, not findings. The seal above tells you how much scholarly weight the place carries.

History

How it came to be

Built
geological Cretaceous; Fawcett sketch 1920 based on Munduruku relay
Period
Cretaceous Cachimbo quartzite ridge geology + Munduruku rumor relay onto Fawcett notebook; Lost City Z proper is Kuhikugu 70 km SE (separate problem)
Culture
Natural quartzite ridge joints and tower karst misread as Z monumental walls (no culture) — real Z is Kuhikugu nearby
Purpose
Quartzite natural joint isodomic 'walls' projected as Z's Atlantean city walls
Abandoned
no cultural abandonment — natural ridge enduring
Rediscovered
No FUNAI exav; 1925 Fawcett search; 1952 Villas-Bôas overflight; 2007 Roncador geology shows karst
Excavation
Unexcavated
  1. 1920

Fawcett sketches quartzite ridge as Z walls based on Munduruku stone-house rumor

  2. 1925

Fawcett last march toward Kalapalo passes 110 km south of ridge — never reaches

  3. 1952

Villas-Bôas flies ridge — joints proven karst, no Z walls
