About Nymphaion — Eltegen Eastern Breakwater Harbour
Eastern fishing harbour of Nymphaion in Eltegen Bay's eastern lobe: a 55-m curved rubble breakwater at 2.5–4 m depth enclosing a 40-m-diameter tidal pool used for fish-salting (tarichos) — Bosporan cetariae precursor. The breakwater is built of unworked limestone blocks over a submerged Neolithic land surface (Sirakian core 19). Excavations retrieved net weights, fish-bone midden (sturgeon, mackerel) and a fragmentary 4th c. BCE black-glazed kylix. The pool's sluice gate is still visible as a rock-cut channel 0.9 m wide. Unlike the northern vineyard quay, this sector handled fish processing for the Bosporan grain-fish exchange with Athens.
