About

About Titriş Höyük

Largest EBA urban centre east of Euphrates (c.43 ha with suburbs) showing Mid-Late EBA (2600–2200 BCE) walled town with orthogonal planning, 2.5 km fortification, extramural cemetery and industrial quarter: corvee-built mudbrick city with drafted labour, mass-produced ceramics and evidence for early urban class hierarchy. Excavated 1991–2002 Guillermo Algaze (UC San Diego) with geophysics revealing suburbs and canals. Abandoned 2200 BCE at 4.2kya event with pastoral nomadic reoccupation — classic EBA urban cycle case. Buried plaster-floored middle class houses under Iron colluvium.

Why it mattersOnly fully-planned EBA city with orthogonal grid east of Euphrates; type-site for 4.2kya collapse and de-urbanisation.
